- Why am I going to do it?
- What do I need to do it?
- How am I going to do it?

Five Questions to Guide Planning
- What am I going to do?
- Goals—long-term learning outcomes. (Students become critical thinkers.)
- Instructional objectives—immediate outcomes of instruction (Students are able to distinguish between fact and opinion)
- Objectives give:
- direction for instruction
- guidelines for assessment
- way for the selection of methods
- ABCD’s of Objectives
- Audience—What are the learners expected to do?
- Behavior—focuses on overt or observable performances
- Conditions—situation under which the learners are able to perform the outcome
- Degree—how well must the learner perform
2. Why am I going to do it?
“The first object of any act of learning . . . is that it should serve us in the future.” (Bruner)
Even a well-constructed objective may be meaningless.
- What do I need to do it?
- Materials
- Human resources
- How am I going to do it?
- Procedures
- Sequencing
- How will I know I’ve done it?
- Assessing student performance
- Self reflection
